This inspiring story is of a rising startup called Bey Moss started by Nick Bey in the e-commerce space. Bey Moss is a health and wellness company dedicated to creating dietary supplements and personal care products made of 100% purple sea moss. Here is the story of Bey Moss in Nick’s own words.

Our products include mineral capsules, bar and liquid soaps, shampoo, gummies, powder, gel, and wild raw sea moss that can be used in a number of convenient ways. The various variations of sea moss we have created can be added to your favorite foods and beverages, used in your regular beauty regimen, or taken as a daily supplement to optimize health. The majority of Bey Moss products are organic and made of naturally-derived ingredients.

What’s your strategy story? What led you to start Bey Moss?

Within just the first year of business, Bey Moss has become the fastest-growing company in the entire sea moss industry. The sea moss product line has been intentionally and vastly differentiated to become a one-stop-shop, offering a product to meet the needs of every consumer.

To provide the fastest and most satisfying consumer experience, Bey Moss has partnered with Shopify Fulfillment Center to ship out all orders 24-48 hours or less. The Bey Moss company is 100% minority-owned, family-driven, and female-led. It was co-founded by husband and wife team, Nick and Charmaine Bey.

You may know Charmaine from the VH1’s Black Ink Crew Chicago, as the owner of the tattoo shop 2nd City Ink, located in Chicago. Charmaine is also the founder of the cooking brand All Things Charmaine, which features her cookbook, creative aprons, and an app.

Nick Bey owns and operates Relevant Systems, a minority- and female-focused tech company that develops digital technologies and helps under-represented people gain access to innovation.

In fact, Relevant Systems designed the logo and website for Bey Moss, and acts as its parent company, fully managing its operation. Nick and Charmaine are not only fervent users and believers of the powerful health benefits of purple sea moss but have also dedicated their lives to creating natural products you can love and trust

What marketing, operation strategies are you adopting at Bey Moss?

Our marketing and operation strategy have solely been through social media. Both Nick and Charmaine Bey combine for over 1 million followers on Instagram so our strategy were designing graphics and creating content around our products to showcase to social media. We also collect emails where we now have 20,000 subscribers where we monetize when we have new specials and discounts. We keep our profit margins for all our products at 70%.

Any strategy mistakes you have made and what were your learning?

I tried to purchase more inventory in preparation for what the demand in the future could be and that didn’t work out as planned. It’s more important to sell the inventory you have versus being stuck with inventory.

Finally what advice you have for your fellow entrepreneur readers?

The advice I always like to tell people is don’t be afraid to fail. Failing is the best way to learn anything you’re interested in learning or doing. Failure is inevitable so I’ve truly embraced it enough to know how and when to pivot. In the long run, I’ve saved so much time trusting that process.
